Introduction to Insulated Plastic Granules Materials for Wires and Cables

Insulated plastic granule materials for wires and cables are an important component of wire and cable manufacturing. They mainly play a role in insulation, protecting the internal conductors of wires and cables, preventing current leakage, and preventing damage to wires and cables from external environmental factors. The following is an introduction to several common insulation plastic granule materials used for wires and cables:
1.Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

● Characteristics: PVC is a widely used thermoplastic with good physical and mechanical properties, excellent processability, chemical corrosion resistance, and aging resistance. It also has low density and cost, making it an important choice for insulation and sheath materials for wires and cables.
● Application:PVC Cable Material is a granule prepared by mixing, kneading, and extruding PVC based resin with stabilizers, plasticizers, inorganic fillers, additives, and lubricants. It is widely used for insulation and sheathing of low and medium voltage wires and cables.
● Note: However, PVC produces toxic gases (such as HCl) during combustion and may have insufficient weather resistance in some special environments. Therefore, in some situations where environmental and safety requirements are high, the use of PVC may be restricted.
2. Polyethylene (PE)

● Characteristics: Polyethylene is a commonly used plastic material with excellent electrical insulation performance, weather resistance, and processability. Its dielectric constant and dielectric loss are small, its resistivity is high, and its breakdown field strength is high. Polyethylene has good flexibility and tensile properties, making it suitable for insulation of various wires and cables.
● Types: There are various types of polyethylene, such as low-density polyethylene (LDPE), medium density polyethylene (MDPE), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Among them, HDPE has high heat resistance and mechanical strength, and is commonly used for insulation of communication cables.
● Application: Polyethylene granule materials are widely used in the manufacturing of insulation layers for wires and cables, especially in situations where high insulation performance is required.
3.Cross linked polyethylene (XLPE)

● Characteristics:Cross linked polyethylene is a thermosetting plastic formed by adding crosslinking agents to polyethylene. On the basis of inheriting many excellent properties of polyethylene, it has improved mechanical properties, weather resistance, and allowable working temperature. Cross linked polyethylene has excellent insulation performance and good water resistance, making it suitable for insulation of high-voltage and ultra-high voltage wires and cables.
● Process: The preparation process of cross-linked polyethylene includes chemical cross-linking, warm water cross-linking, and irradiation cross-linking. Different cross-linking processes are suitable for wires and cables of different voltage levels.
● Application: Cross linked polyethylene granule material has become one of the main materials for the insulation layer of power cables, widely used in high-voltage and ultra high voltage transmission lines.
4.Fluoroplastics

● Characteristics:Fluoroplastics have extremely high working temperatures, excellent insulation, weather resistance, acid and alkali resistance, oil resistance, and flame retardancy. It has low dielectric loss and excellent electrical insulation performance.
● Application: Due to the excellent performance of fluoroplastics, their application in wires and cables is becoming increasingly widespread. Especially in situations where high insulation performance and operating temperature are required, fluoroplastics are an ideal choice.
5.Low smoke halogen-free polyolefin (LSOH)

● Characteristics: Low smoke halogen-free polyolefin is a new type of environmentally friendly material, which has the characteristics of flame retardancy, low smoke during combustion, and no toxic gas. It meets modern environmental and safety requirements and is widely used in important public buildings and places with high fire safety requirements.
● Application: Low smoke halogen-free polyolefin granule materials are commonly used in the manufacturing of sheaths and insulation layers for wires and cables to improve their environmental friendliness and safety.
In summary, there are various types of insulating plastic granule materials used for wires and cables, each with its own characteristics and applicable scenarios. When selecting, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as the specific purpose, working environment, and performance requirements of the wires and cables.
